Give me vibrant prints, color and interesting silhouettes and you have my fashion girl heart warmed up, and thats exactly what @sgtcclothing did when they gifted me this ankara-print fiery red dress. I couldn’t wait to style this baby and share the look on the blog.
Once upon a time ankara print outfits (or any traditional print) were reserved for weddings and heritage day gatherings. We would all wear our best ankara printed A-line full skirts or a-line dress, the two most popular silhouette choices for women, and walk around to be seen. Today, the modern take on traditional prints has taken over the fashion streets and runways that going a day without spotting an ankara piece on your gram would make that day dull.
*Its beautiful to witness africans enjoying their own inventions (well at least what we can claim as ours) on their terms and spreading this enjoyment to the rest of the world, its african aesthetics draped in beautiful fashion, giving the wearer a pump of confidence. One thing I love in particular about this dress is the drama in the print and sleeves, sometimes a mix of print and silhouette can get messy but in this case, they blended so well. I definitely need more of these in different colours, meaning I’ll also need matching thigh high boots… ah excess, so wrong but so right!
